In 2020, a call for a special issue was issued, which culminated in the publication of the issue in 2021 as Volume 4, Issue 2. The call highlighted how the outbreak of Covid-19 not only posed health challenges worldwide but also transformed our way of thinking. This shift in thought was expressed through a novel mode of ‘language use,’ rich in a multitude of linguistic aspects. From newly-coined words to the innovative applications of those words and expressions across various social settings, the language was utilized in a manner unprecedented in history.

To uncover these unique ways of language use, Corporum: Journal of Corpus Linguistics [CJCL] welcomed corpus-based research papers for its special issue titled 'Language in the Aftermath of Covid-19'. The themes proposed included, but were not limited to, the following:

    - Metaphorical expressions related to the pandemic and their positive and negative connotations
    - Coroneologisms – the various contexts in which new words were employed
    - The language of humor amidst the health crisis
    - Social media discourse (memes/posts/comments in response to memes or posts)
    - The language of phobias and stereotypes observed in print/electronic media discourse
    - The transformation of social perceptions during the pandemic
    - Iconicity and/or multimodality in the language of Covid-19
    - Language patterns of NLPs/psychologists aimed at mitigating the psychological effects of Covid-19
    - Work-from-home dynamics and language teaching practices during the pandemic
    - Gender differences in perceptions and narratives surrounding the pandemic
    - Language use on social media during lockdown compared to after lockdown
    - Language evolution throughout the pandemic
    - Cross-cultural differences and perceptions regarding Covid-19
    - The spread of medical misinformation on social media and its impact on psychological health
    - Conspiracy theories and the politics surrounding Covid-19

This Special Issue, published under the editorial guidance of Prof. Dr. Wasima Shehzad as Editor & Dr. Huma Batool as Managing Editor, aimed to illuminate the complexities of language that emerged in response to an unprecedented global crisis.
